Sustainable methanol produced through a novel electrified steam-methane reforming reactor: eREACT ™
Methanol demand is expected to continue increasing to reach more than 120 Mt by 2025 and 500 Mt by 2050
The core of the project is to take a prototype and pilot it in an industrial system
Intimate contact between the electric heat source and the reaction site drives the reaction close to thermal equilibrium, increases catalyst utilization, and limits unwanted byproduct formation.
The integrated design with small characteristic length scales allows compact reactor designs, potentially 100 times smaller than current reformer platforms.
Switching to eREACT™ has the potential of reducing total global emissions by 1%
The methanol industry has an annual CO2 emission of approximately 0.3 GT/year, which roughly corresponds to 10% of the total global chemical sector
Our solution is a cost-efficient approach to producing methanol that will be important to cover the needs of both the shipping and chemical industries.
It lets ship owners (one of the world’s largest, with 2 methanol container vessels in construction, participating in the proposal) use zero-emission fuels, and also scale through onboard carbon capture and CO2 returned to the plant.
Our solution industrialises the game-changing technology of eREACT™, integrating it with methanol synthesis solutions, as well as working to utilise the potential in co-location with biogas production plants.
