On Tuesday, 19 May, from 16:15 to 18:30, stakeholders attending EUBCE 2026 will have the opportunity to join the Joint Workshop – 2nd edition, entitled “Decarbonizing the Seas”, at the World Forum, The Hague, The Netherlands.
The workshop will bring together five collaborative EU projects — M²ARE, COCPIT, Seafairer, Poseidon, and NextFuel — to present their latest progress and results in the field of advanced biofuels production for the maritime sector. The session will offer participants valuable insights into innovative pathways supporting the transition towards more sustainable shipping.
The agenda includes project presentations covering topics such as the use of biogenic CO₂ and renewable hydrogen for methanol production, thermochemical waste-to-value conversion, and the development of credible pathways for large-scale methanol uptake as a marine fuel. These presentations will be followed by an open discussion and audience interaction focused on some of the most pressing issues facing the sector today.
A key message of the workshop is the importance of synergies. Decarbonising the maritime sector requires coordinated action across technologies, projects, and value chains. By sharing knowledge and aligning efforts, projects can strengthen the impact of their innovations, address common regulatory challenges such as FuelEU Maritime and the EU ETS, and support the development of integrated supply chains involving feedstock availability, hydrogen use, and port infrastructure readiness.
This joint event will demonstrate how collaboration can accelerate progress towards Europe’s 2030 and 2050 climate targets and help build a more competitive and sustainable future for shipping. Do not miss this opportunity to join us in The Hague and be part of the discussion.
