Partners Profile: Molgas Energy in the NextFuel

Molgas Energy Norway AS is one of the Norway’s leading providers of LNG and renewable gas solutions. With extensive experience in gas infrastructure, distribution systems, and sustainable energy supply, Molgas plays an important role in advancing alternative fuels for the maritime sector.

In the NEXTFUEL project, Molgas contributes to the development and industrial demonstration of innovative technologies for producing sustainable methanol for shipping. The project focuses on industrialising a novel electrically heated steam methane reforming (eSMR) technology that enables efficient and low-emission production of synthesis gas for methanol production.

Gasnor contributes as the majority owner of FlexFuels, set up to host the plant we build, as well as being an infrastructure partner, supporting the demonstration and future deployment of the technology in a real industrial environment.

Industrial demonstration site

Molgas is majority owner of FlexFuels, that hosts and supports the operation of the pilot plant where the innovative eSMR technology will be demonstrated, helping move the technology from laboratory scale toward industrial deployment.

Fuel supply and infrastructure expertise

Molgas contributes expertise in gas distribution systems, energy infrastructure, and fuel supply chains, helping to develop practical pathways for producing and delivering sustainable methanol.

Supporting market adoption of green methanol

Molgas facilitates the connection between the project’s technological developments and the maritime market, supporting the deployment of sustainable methanol as a future marine fuel.

Through these activities, Molgas helps ensure that the NEXTFUEL innovation moves beyond research and toward practical and scalable solutions for low-carbon maritime fuels.
