On 24–25 September 2026, the NextFuel consortium met in Haugesund, Norway, for its General Assembly and Project Review Meeting, bringing together partners from across Europe to review progress and plan the next steps towards cleaner maritime fuels.
Discussions covered achievements across the project’s work packages, implementation challenges and priorities for the remaining project period. Partners also explored how dissemination and exploitation activities can help translate project results into value for the maritime sector.
Site visits connected these discussions with the infrastructure supporting the maritime energy transition. At Karmøy Harbour and the FlexFuels location, participants met with the Harbour Director and gained insight into port activities, regional logistics and the role of ports in supporting sustainable fuel solutions.
A visit to the Molgas Energy Group LNG plant provided further insight into fuel supply infrastructure and operations. The programme also included a visit to a local Viking Heritage site, offering a connection to the region’s longstanding maritime traditions.
Thank you to all partners for their contributions and active participation. Special thanks to our Project Officer from CINEA, for joining the meeting and providing valuable feedback and guidance.
The meeting combined technical exchange, practical insight and collaborative planning to support NextFuel’s continued work towards more sustainable European shipping.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 101136225.
