The NextFuel Project was proudly represented at the 12th International Congress on Transportation Research (ICTR 2025), held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 16–18 October 2025, by our partners from CERTH (Centre for Research & Technology Hellas). ICTR is one of the most prominent events for showcasing cutting-edge research and innovation in transportation.
During the session “S5A – Sustainability in Transportation”, Athanasia Maria Moustaka delivered a presentation on the paper:
“Biomethanol as a Sustainable Fuel for Maritime Transport: Insights from the NextFuel Project”
Authors: Athanasia Maria Moustaka, Vassilios Kappatos, Afroditi Anagnostopoulou
The presentation explored how current European regulatory frameworks supporting decarbonisation in the maritime sector are influencing the adoption of sustainable alternative fuels. The study focused on the potential of biomethanol, highlighting its relevance as a scalable and environmentally responsible option for greener maritime transport.
The session generated strong interest and constructive dialogue among participants, reaffirming the importance of sustainable marine fuels in the broader journey toward zero-emission shipping.
The NextFuel consortium warmly thanks the organisers of ICTR 2025 and congratulates CERTH colleagues for their excellent representation of the project.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 101136225.
