Partner Profile: WEGEMT’s Role in the NextFuel

WEGEMT (the European Association of Universities in Marine Technology and Related Sciences) is a not-for-profit organization established in 1978 with the mission to increase the knowledge base and enhance the skills and competencies of engineers and postgraduate students in the field of marine technology and related sciences. Its membership includes leading universities from across Europe, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and the CIS, all recognized for their academic excellence and active involvement in advanced marine research, education, and innovation. WEGEMT plays a strategic role in bridging academia and industry by supporting and participating in numerous EU-funded research and innovation projects, where it takes on central roles in dissemination, communication, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement. The association is deeply involved in Research and Development (R&D)Education and Training (E&T), and the exchange and dissemination of knowledge, acting as a key catalyst for maritime innovation.

In NextFuel, WEGEMT leads and supports activities dedicated to public outreach, communication synergies, and cross-sectoral collaboration, ensuring that the project’s outcomes are effectively communicated and shared with both professional and public audiences. Leveraging its long-standing European network and expertise, WEGEMT contributes to shaping the future of maritime education while fostering a strong knowledge community in marine technologies.

As the leader of Work Package 7 – Communication, Dissemination & Exploitation, WEGEMT plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the project’s results reach and engage relevant stakeholders across Europe.

Key responsibilities
– Establishing a Communication Secretariat to coordinate and oversee dissemination and exploitation activities.
– Developing and maintaining a Comprehensive Dissemination and Exploitation Plan, with ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
– Creating and managing a multichannel communication platform, including the project’s website, newsletters, social media, and visual identity.
– Supporting IPR and exploitation strategies alongside industrial partners to maximize visibility and impact.

Strategic Contribution
Through its extensive European network in maritime education and research, WEGEMT ensures:
– Broad dissemination across academia, industry, and policy sectors.
– High visibility for NextFuel innovations in sustainable fuel production and use.
– Active stakeholder engagement through events, digital outreach, and collaborations with related EU initiatives.

Together with its partners, WEGEMT drives the visibility, impact, and legacy of NextFuel, reinforcing Europe’s leadership in clean and sustainable maritime technologies.
